No other book so far has given a clear and understandable definition and explanation of who and what a human being is. Ramacharaka explains this in most simplistic and conversational forms and yet touches on subjects that are considered too deep to enter and explore. This is the kintergarden class of the spiritual, physical, and psychic knowledge that is awaiting ahead of us, and the means of acquiring it or any portions of it that we wish to accept and put to use as we feel comfortable with. He asks that we believe nothing until we could prove it to ourselves. In this book I found what I was looking for even after researching more than twenty other books in areas of psychology, mind explorations and the like. Entire radio talk shows dwell and discuss the subject of the mind and psychic phenomena, but they never really touch on explaining what is occuring behind all these so called occult and mystic experiences. The so-called out-of-body experience is fully described, a! lthough I would prefer to call this an astral travel experience, due to the many densities of the self, the physical body being only one manifestation of you, and not entirely the seat of consciousness. Not many sanskrit words are used, as it is all in simplified English. He points out the relationship of mind, energy and matter and how the three are manisfestations of Spirit, in the sense of an absolute source of light, power, strength, wisdom or everything you can think of. In this context, Spirit does not mean disembodied spirits or ghosts or astral forms. Spirit refers to the ultimate source of that which created the universe and all life forms that abound.
Jimmytico, 9/6/98 A must for any spiritual traveler
This book is well written, organized, methodical and clear. Written in 1905, it will be the first in a line of thirteen such books by Y. Ramacharaka. It precedes Sri Yogananda in age, yet mirrors it in philosophy.
