Synopsis:

Like the skins of an onion, there are other worlds existing, and through training and study, we can alter our consciousness and visit these amazing places. With The Art of Dreaming one can appreciate, as Carlos Castaneda did, how finding the way to alternate realities through the consciousness of dreams is the essence of the great sorcerers; how ancient, remarkable, and sometimes dangerous beings live among us; how don Juan's training allows two or more people to dream and explore together; how using "the fourth gate" of dreams leads to a two-way hatch to other worlds. Mostly, one will be utterly captivated by the story of one man's remarkable life and journeys.

Reviews:

Irish reader, 9/2/99

Having been an avid reader of Castenedas work for some time now, this publication offered yet another departure from the expected. It seems as though all "reason" is suspended whenever I flick the pages of these books, only to be replaced by a much more colourfull and lucid vision of the world we inhabit. Go raibh mile maith agat aris Carlos!

Hermes, 3/9/98, This is NOT Fiction!

Upon finding this book I knew there was much more to lucid dreaming than what the purely "scientific" researchers suspected. The methods in this book can be applied and practiced by anyone with Will and desire. Those who dismiss it as fiction or drug induced hallucinations have not made an honest effort to Dream!

gbandzmer@aol.com, 2/11/98, Carlos' Evolving Art ...

People who classify Castaneda's work as "fiction" have obviously only touched upon the 1st layer of the "onion" of reality in their own lives. Castaneda's work can only really be appreciated if you can "read between the lines". In fact, all great works of spiritual import(including the Bible) speak deeply to those who have EXPERIENCED a deeper journey and a deeper calling of Reality than simply the alignment or non-alignment of "factual data".

The world of the Inner Heart of Man must be known, in order to feel the deeper purpose of existance. Castaneda outlines his way, his journey in undertaking the exploration of this world. It speaks very deeply of a profound sense of beauty and understanding of the essence of perception.

A Reader from BC, 10/18/97, interesting but misses the mark
A book that I sometimes had to push myself to finish. Interesting subject matter, that does make you explore your own ideas about reality, but sadly seems to leave the reader dangling. I went from feeling that he is almost hitting on some great "truth" to thinking that this is just poor fiction. I am left with mixed reviews.

A Reader from St. Louis, MO, 10/05/97, good fiction, with limited amount of Don Juan's teachings.
This book is obviously fictional, but a good story. It includes a few actual methods for creating and controlling dreams, but is by no means a good instructional manual on the subject.

A Reader, 06/18/97, Astonishing change in style
But not only in style. Also moods, contents and situations are different and show a lower level than in the previous eight books. The other books were deep in concepts, that one is good to read for killing time.

R., 01/15/97, What I think about it:
This book is best I ever see in this area of knowledge. Thank you Carlos!
