i know not how to use mere words to praise this book, a book which had the power to change an atheist like me to a GOD loving person who someday hopes to join his GURU'S work. i have read the book about 8 times now and each time ithas left me in a state of great joy..i keep wondering how the honoured author has used simple words to convey message of such divine nature.. simple, humorous ,deep..the book is the essence of vedas. anyone who has come accross this book is a blessed soul. highly recommended.

I first read this book after knowing of its existence for several years. A good friend of mine had told me about it a long time before I actually read it and I had forgotten about it. Years later, this same good friend of mine brought it up again. I bought this most incredible story of a soul and dug right in this time. What stories! What insight! What inspiration. All of my spiritual hopes and doubts were at once placated and extinguished. I feel honor-bound to recommend this book to anyone who feels as if their life is lacking in some way. Paramahansa Yogananda, among many other beautiful and selfless actions he performed during his life, has opened a doorway, through this book, to the infinite. Just a glimpse . . . but more of a look than most of us ever hoped to see in this life. I have read many books and searched many paths. In Paramahansa Yogananda's message I have found the spiritual connection/contentment I have always sought. I can only say thank you.

Imagine if Jesus Christ wrote a book! The imagination soars at such an idea! Well, it need soar no longer, because that's exactly what has been done when Paramahansa Yogananda first wrote his autobiography and many other books. I am not exaggerating in the least when I say this, for the Master's impact goes far deeper than the world has yet realized. This book is changing millions of lives not only because it's a great book, nor because it was written by such a great soul ó no ó this book has the POWER OF GOD in it and behind it. The Kriya Yoga movement he was and is still a part of was sent to the world by a long line of spiritual masters: Bhagavan Krishna, Jesus Christ, Mahavatar Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya, Swami Sri Yukteswar, and himself. These masters are all avatars ó in a Christian context, they are Sons of God or Christs. The impact of Paramahansa Yogananda's presence in this world left by his life and writings is still little understood. The book, The Autobiography Of A Yogi, will be like the BIBLE in the future, a spiritual scripture (wait and see). It has been written, along with his God Talks With Arjuna, a commentary on the Bhagavad Gita, in the state of mind of one who knows God, nay, it is written by God. I know it's difficult to swallow but, please, when you read his words, read it with the comfort and knowledge that IT IS TRUTH ITSELF, FROM GOD HIMSELF!! Please do know that Self-Realization Fellowship ("SRF") is the true organization that the Master, the Gurus, and God established to publish, and minister the teachings to the world in their purest form. In Los Angeles at the SRF Mother Center, he trained monks and nuns to live the life of Christ, he often said, and live for God and serve Him through the work. This has been confused by the many organizations started by many of his disciples who left SRF and are teaching Kriya Yoga in many parts of the world. Many of these disciples are good-intentioned and I have read and treasure their writings and books. But do know this, the Kriya Yoga they've learned was given to them through SRF and there is a great difference between that given by others and that given by SRF. The technique may be the same, but the spiritual power and blessings of the Gurus are not. Many that left the SRF organization had personal desires that caught up with them and they followed their own will, not giving it up to serve God through the work. Their personal desires deluded them to thinking that their "mission" was to "lead" rather than to "follow". In many instances the Master commented when they left, "Delusion has caught up with them; but I shall be with them." But to some he said, "If you leave now, it will take you many incarnations to find God." Some yogis, even when they reach high states, are still deluded by maya. He stated, no one is truly safe from maya until they have entered nirbikalpa samadhi from which there is no fall! Every state under that, one can fall from. So be very careful when you read of the Master's Kriya Yoga being taught elsewhere. He stated many times that his coming and his establishment of the work of Self-Realization Fellowship was a Special Dispensation of God! I have been told that those who received Kriya initiation at the Mother Center as opposed to other organizations branching off from disciples who left have realized a deeper atunement and blessing in the SRF organization. Yoganandaji stated many times that even after he was gone, he and the Gurus would bless, watch over, protect, and guide all sincere Kriya Yogis who follow and practice the teachings faithfully with devotion and diligence. This is not to say they won't bless and guide those in other oraganizations. BUT, Self-Realization Fellowship is the world-wide organization he founded for the distribution and dissemination of the uncorrupted, undiluted teachings of the Gurus. He has stated that Babaji has already predetermined and chosen the future presidents of SRF, as it is in the ether. So this need not be debated. Whoever is at the head of SRF is chosen by God and the Gurus and they reflect that Cosmic Consciousness ó do not doubt it. The monks and nuns at the Mother Center and abroad are rishis of this age, modern day saints ó just like those written of in his Autobiography!! Realize this when you meet some of the original disciples, and some new ones, too. These are very real and sacred things I am speaking of. Brother Anandamoy mentioned that the master had said something like, "If you think the organization is big now, you should see it 2000 years from now!!" THAT IS THE DEPTH AND IMPACT OF WHAT PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA HAS LEFT IN THE KRIYA YOGA TEACHINGS THROUGH SELF-REALIZATION FELLOWSHIP (OR YOGODA SATSANGA SOCIETY, AS IT IS KNOWN IN INDIA). Think about it.

when i first saw this book at a book store shelf i was very sceptical about reading it ,but later going home i thought atleast i will make an attempt in reading it.I thought i was wasting my money on it .After purchasing the book for many days i didnot read it .One day i casually opened the book to read the introduction,that was the begining of a journey which has not ended.For many days morning and evening i read only that book,since i was undergoing a lot of stress at that time this book gave me a new lease of life.That journey which i started with that book is still going on,it made me look up and think about hindu way of living and also to respect the rich culture of INDIA. I do hope that many peoples lives will be changed by this BOOK.

This is the book that jump-started my spiritual journey...If you are longing to know more about yourself, this world, what's it all about, etc. then read this book. No matter what your spiritual or religious beliefs are, this book is inspirational. Even if you're not on a spiritual quest, it's as interesting and easy to read as any best selling novel I've read!

This is definitely the "one book " that has moved my heart and soul, and changed my life more that any other.Even with the dozens of new writitngs steadily flooding the spiritual market each year. This is the book I sincerely recommend you read-very carefully -and more than once if you have time. PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA was a great Yogi who was invited to America in 1920 to speak in Boston . His life and work through THE SELF-REALIZATION FELLOWSHIP are an outstanding testamony to the wonderful science of Kriya Yoga Meditation. Yogananda tells about the resurrection of his own spiritual master, and describes his meetings with many eastern and wesetern saints. His many creative and practical ideas on religion and spirituality are having a major impact on the religious life worldwide. The true relationship between Jesus and John the Baptist is only one of the remarkable insights in this book, which I see as a major world spiritual dispensation in the last two centuries. This book has appeared on best seller lists as recently as 1997( LA Times), after more than 50 years in print, and has influenced the lives of millions of readers.It givesus a candid view of some of the great spiritual Masters of India,and their steady flow of Divine light into the world. It is a real challenge to any one who would arrogantly assert that theirs is the only "truth". For a good overview of Yognanda's wisdom, read "Where There Is Light" and Man's Eternal Quest".
