What at first sight might have held interest into the life saga of the author
and her relation to the now legendary Castaneda, turns out to be simple,
vain, empty. The hope that precious stones were dispersed in the middle
of the river is - hopeless. A perpetual motion between places, events, parties,
dresses. By golly, the book could have been written by an accountant ! The
incessant rambling of events, places, dates, who's dressing what where,
six months of marriage, must have been hell, boring. Yet, she was so close
to the action, but only physically. No meat, just bones, nothing of any
real value, like 'Death is an adviser, always to your left at an arms length'
shown in a glimmer, undoubtedly Carlos talking to himself in a moment of
deep despair, not her saying. Who cares who dressed what, was at what date,
married who, in what country, born where, Chile or Vermont ? The author
misses the point entirely in light of Don Juan's shattering masterful knowledge:
the world is not the actions of man. There's nothing of real value in this
book, not worth the wonderful trees that died. The author has outspoken
pretensions of becoming part of humankind's most extraordinary historical
event late in the 20th. century. However, Don Juan's amazing unveilings
do not grant guaranteed admission to an exclusive membership club, which
isn't. Becoming an impecable warrior, however accessible to anyone, is a
lifelong path of excrutiating hard work and struggle. The author has neither.
Not recommended, other than for a passing indulging risible interest in
Carlos life meanderings.
