Reviews:
I.G., 5/19/98, A non-dogmatic search for scientific validations of the Cayce readings on Atlantis
Mysteries of Atlantis Revisited is a well-balanced, thought-provoking exploration of Edgar Cayce's story of Atlantis when viewed through the lense of evolving scientific perspectives. Of course, no scientific conclusions regarding Atlantis are reached in the book. Instead, we get an interesting tour through the history of scientific theories on related subjects -- from plate tectonics to paleontology to archaeology.
My personal ideos on the possible existence of Atlantis are already pretty fixed and not strongly affected by the often self-limiting perspectives of orthodox science. However, those scientific perspectives are the reigning measure of reality today, and legitimate scientific inquiry into intuited ancient history is sorely needed. This is an important aspect of healing the rift that has developed between the rational and intuitive viewpoints in world culture.
The section on Egypt (which Cayce connected with the final destruction of Atlantis around 10,000 BCE) is of special interest but lacks the immediacy or intrigue of Bauval and Gilbert's The Orion Mystery or Hancock and Bauval's The Message of the Sphinx. But those two books were more squarely in the realm of popular speculative history, while Mysteries of Atlantis Revisited is clearly striving to validate the Edgar Cayce Foundation's ongoing search for clues to Atlantis in the minds of the scientific community as well as the general public.
One of my favorite sections is a survey of the major books that have influences thought on Atlantis for the past century. It not only points out the historical significance of each book, but also highlights many of their false assumptions. In other words, Mysteries of Atlantis Revisited is not acting as a cheerleader for every wild theory. In fact, in the sections dealing with scientific perspectives, the authors are quite blunt in pointing out where and why science disagrees with the story outlined by Cayce.
The overall conclusion of the book is that, while orthodox science finds the idea of Atlantis unacceptible, the momentum of scientific theory seems to be moving in the direction of finding many key Cayce statements to be at least possible -- much more so than in Cayce's day.
Highly recommended for anyone interested in exploring the enduring enigma of Atlantis from a fairly balanced, broad viewpoint.
GCS, 4/18/98, The best on the ATLANTIS QUESTION
MYSTERIES OF ATLANTIS REVISITED is the sequel to Edgar Cayce on Atlantis. MYSTERIES OF ATLANTIS REVISITED takes up where the other left off in 1968. It takes scientific evidence and objectively compares it to data given by Edgar Cayce on this subject Atlantis. For example, carbon dating of the Great Pyramid is there; Evidence for an older age of the Sphinx, new discoveries around Bimini and much more. It is striking in the research done to produce the book. Worth reading no matter what your perspective on the subject.
A Reader, 12/12/97, A superb over-view of
the Atlantis quest, past and present.
This welcome addition to the Atlantis catalogue provides a succinct yet
detailed overview of past and current thinking, discoveries, hypotheses
and searches for Atlantis. The book is liberally sprinkled with numerous
Edgar Cayce quotations which may put off some sceptics but is a delight
for the rest of us! I was impressed by the detailed documentation of the
different explorations undertaken together with the close examination of
available scientific evidence and thinking. A six page bibilography of books
and periodicals further attests to the scholarly approach of its authors.
Essential reading for those who hear the call.
Dr. Joseph Schwartzer , 06/13/97, Lastest book on Atlantis - factual and comprehensive!
Is data from Edgar Cayce, America's best known and documented psychic fact or fiction? Evaluated scientifically, this question springs to life. The authors meticulously research and document recent geological and archeological discoveries, comparing them with Cayce's data.
Includes carbon dating the Great Pyramid; Evidence for an older age of the Sphinx; New discoveries around Bimini and scientific data supporting Cayce's statements about future earthquakes.
The most recent and factual book on the "Atlantis Question" - It covers Atlantis from Plato to the present.
