Synopsis:
In the rush of modern life, we tend to lose touch with the peace that is available in each moment. World-renowned Zen master, spiritual leader, and author Thich Nhat Hanh shows us how to make positive use of the very situations that usually pressure and antagonize us. For him a ringing telephone can be a signal to call us back to our true selves. Dirty dishes, red lights, and traffic jams are spiritual friends on the path to "mindfulness" -- the process of keeping our consciousness alive to our present experience and reality. The most profound satisfactions, the deepest feelings of joy and completeness lie as close at hand as our next aware breath and the smile we can form right now.
Lucidly and beautifully written, Peace Is Every Step contains commentaries and meditations, personal anecdotes and stories from Nhat Hanh's experiences as a peace activist, teacher, and community leader. It begins where the reader already is -- in the kitchen, office, driving a car, walking a part -- and shows how deep meditative presence is available now. Nhat Hanh provides exercises to increase our awareness of our own body and mind through conscious breathing, which can bring immediate joy and peace. Nhat Hanh also shows how to be aware of relationships with others and of the world around us, its beauty and also its pollution and injustices. the deceptively simple practices of Peace Is Every Step encourage the reader to work for peace in the world as he or she continues to work on sustaining inner peace by turning the "mindless" into the mindFUL.
"This book of illuminating reminders bid us to reorient the way we look at the world...toward a humanitarian perspective." --Publisher Weekly

A reader from Santa Barbara,
California , August 5, 1999 I do not remember life
before this book
This wonderfully simple and straightforward book has gotten me
through the last four years in an almost constant state of joy.
Reading it changed my life, how I see the world. A must read for
anyone desiring inner peace and incessant happiness
A reader from Florence,
Italy , July 31, 1999 Advice:
My lowly advise: don't buy a copy of Thich Nhat Hahn's Peace Is Every
Step! Buy two. Buy three. Buy four. Five. Six. One hundred if you
can. Buy a whole bunch! You'll want to give them to family and
friends--everyone. (Because heaven knows you won't be able to part
with your own copy, no matter how at peace you become--at least I
can't!) This is an excellent, comprehensive book. Inspiring.
Tranquil. Peaceful.... and especially geared to the Western Mind. One
of the best purchases I've ever made.

Thich Nhat Hanh will teach you how to love every moment of your life,
including, miraculously, washing dishes!
A reader from San Francisco,

mindfulness, amazing!
I am a UCLA student, major in International politics, minor in latin
American Studies. I was sent this book after dealing with stress
related ailments. I was very unhappy for a long time. This book
explains the ideas behind meditation, and everday ways to apply it to
ones life. This book really helped me out. I can concentrate better
and everything has become easier for me to deal with. I feel great.
Plus this book was well written and a lot of fun to read. I suggest
other books by the same Hanh as well. They are all wonderful.

It is as if this book contains a special magic. Even just holding it
in my hand makes me feel at peace! It changed my life and many
others. It will create beautiful events in your life. It is
definitely buddhism even a westerner can understand (that's me!).
Everytime I read it, I am transformed once again into a healed and
tranquil soul.

Peace is indeed, every step. THANK YOU, Thich Nhat Hanh
Very powerful, yet simple. This is one the best feel good books I
have ever read. It made me feel so peaceful inside just to read these
simple and powerful words.
A reader from Cowan,
Tennessee , September 10, 1998 A manual for living
simply in a complex world.
If you have forgotten how to smile at the simple things in life, or
have forgotten that a tree is real and a business memo is not, this
is a book for you.
Thich Nhat Hanh brings us back to the present by reminding us that if it is not simple, we probably complicated it ourselves. Yet, don't let the simplicity of his words fool you. As a master of meditation, TNH is dealing with teaching the paradigm shifts we all need to make to come to terms with true peace.
