I.G., 6/16/98, An inspiring shamanic quest to tap inner strength and joy

Ride on the Wing of the Eagle is a beautiful story of a woman's quest for healing and inner strength through her studies with a female shaman named Raven. Sheila Griffin takes us by the hand and gently walks us through key points in her pathway as she encounters feelings of limitations and fears and learns to courageously pass through them searching for ways to engage life with joyful aliveness.

The chapters are brief, focused and very personal. Simple exercises accompany each chapter with suggested meditations and rituals to help us more deeply bring the lessons into she learns into our own lives.

Those looking for the reality-shaking experiences of Carlos Castaneda might be disappointed. Ride on the Wing of the Eagle follows the spiritual and psychological unfolding of a woman engaged in the challenges of our modern world. In addition to being a spiritual seeker, Sheila Griffin is a mother struggling with partnership, she is a motivated career woman seeking balance in her life, she is a daughter grieving the loss of parents. In other words, the perception of reality isn't so much overturned as permeated with a deep appreciation of the moment and the divine guidance all around us.

This book holds many simple, unexpected gifts -- like a wolf encountered on a medicine walk. The directness of the language and the honesty of the experiences imbue the book with a quiet dignity. After reading Ride on the Wing of the Eagle I came away not only respecting Sheila Griffin, I just liked her as a person.
