As an adoptee I wanted to read this book to view how my relationship with my birth mother and my adopted mother have impacted my life. As I read I saw myself in both the position as the daughter giving the birth and the mother of three daughters. As the mother figure I was thinking of how in the process of birthing my mother I was reacting to my own daughters and how they are now trying to give birth to me. Very interesting reading.

The first 46 pages are the guide...the rest are stories of women who collectively
speak as Everywoman. Chernin's listening skills are apparent on every page,
