A NOTE ABOUT THE WOMEN'S SEXUALITY CATEGORY:
We debated a bit before adding the Women's Sexuality category to the Bookshelf in 1998. We don't want to use sex as a superficial way to increase interest in our site or to sell books. But we recognize that sexuality and identity become deeply interwoven in most of us. This is perhaps especially true for those of us bright shining souls who happen to be born into women's bodies. The female body is THE object of sexual desire in our world. Our environment is filled with images that promote the assumptions that a woman's greatest value is in her sexuality, that she is the embodiment of sexuality. And when our world becomes imbalanced or violent in its sexual energies, women suffer most. Sexual wounds often become identity wounds. There is so much need for sexual healing in our world. Every pathway of personal and spiritual growth deals with identity and healing of the psyche. With sexuality being so closely linked with identity, we felt we should not ignore the subject. We hope the new Bookshelf category will help open up more intelligent and heartful discussions on this deeply personal subject.
